There is a remarkable wealth of natural beauty, architectural treasures and cultural richness to experience in the Iberian Peninsula, and I look forward to our tour as a time to reencounter and share those places that make Spain and Portugal so special.

Our route will take us through landscapes steeped in history and culture, from the marbled elegance of Roman villas and stately theaters to the glass-and-steel encased austerity of new additions to the Prado and Reina Sofía Museums in Madrid. It is a route with infinite layers of history, culture, music and literature where every place has multiple stories, going back in time to the earliest moments of human presence in the continent. When people speak of the magic of Portugal and Spain, I think it is this juxtaposition of narratives—this harmonious cacophony of co-existing histories—that they are seeking to describe.

I look forward to sharing with you these stories, as they are reflected in buildings, landscapes, food, wine and art. To help you make the most of it, I have prepared this blog, where I’ll be posting items that will bring the places we will be visiting even more vividly to life in preparation for our arrival in November.  I hope you will have time to peruse some of this material and that it will enhance your trip.

I am looking forward to meeting you all.
